Leaving Vancouver/Seattle today
by
Eric Rice
on June 28, 2005 10:21AM (PDT)
I'm getting ready to leave Vancouver (by car, which has been much fun... the Volvo S80 is sorta pimp, and yeah Volvo + Pimp = Not harmonious nomenclature, eh?) and fly out of Seattle tonight. The next two days are packing and moving. Life will be back to normal soon.
As some of you know, I am without computer due to 'The Beer Incident' on Friday night at the SPL, and so my internet access the past few days has been reaaaalllly limited. The downtime has been driving me nuts. Thanks to a ton of folks, and especially Bryght, for not only taking care of me computer wise, but for coming out to the Podcast & Videoblog Roadshow in both Seattle and Vancouver. I have a ton of video to edit. But there are plenty of pics from the walk and more to come, I'm sure. Sunday, June 26

Arrived in Seattle
by
Eric Rice
on June 23, 2005 03:49PM (PDT)
The weather is great and the Warwick Hotel is vintage. Alaska Airlines is stupid. Now, off to the coffee places and hooking up with people who are involved with some internets thing called "podcasting"... heard of it?
My contact info is on my blog in the upper right. Holla if you're in the area. It's also sad when hardware bags outnumber clothing bags. Oy. Wednesday, June 22

Eric Rice
on June 22, 2005 04:31PM (PDT)
My, there are lots of 106.7 listings on Google... Hmmm.... maybe this is a thing you'll have to ask me about in person at Gnomedex.
I'm either a tease or a flirt. Or both. Mwah.

by
Eric Rice
on June 21, 2005 05:28PM (PDT)
The newest podcast on KSSX is up and here's the feed: Mixtape RSS (powered by WebJay). Much love to that punk-ass Hooligan who's doing a kick ass job in the indie music scene and podcasting. We'll have more announcements coming up as Gnomedex gets closer.
Car Accident - Everyone's OK
by
Eric Rice
on June 21, 2005 01:44PM (PDT)
This is one of those gnarly stories where you have to start out with "EVERYONE IS FINE".
Kristen, Aidan, and Evan were on the way down to San Jose when a speeding black car cut off a blue car, except hitting it, sending both cars into a spin. The blue car hit a gold car, I believe, and when Kristen dove into the next lane to avoid the whole mess, the black car was still spinning across I-680 and slammed into the front of our car. I believe the front axle is snapped and our car is totalled. It is entirely the black car's fault. To add to the freakishness, I was on the phone and listening to this happen. Jeebus. Good thing this car is two tons of German steel. The damage doesn't look like much considering the damage to the axel. Weird. Everyone is okay, yet shaken, and they are being picked up now. In other news, there's a four car accident Southbound 680 at the 280/101 Junction causing delays. (/dark humor) Incident: 0907 Type: Traffic Collision - No Details Location: SB I680 AT S KING RD Zoom Map: 834 6F Info as of: 6/21/2005 1:45:20 PM
Homework for the Open Media 100 folks
by
Eric Rice
on June 21, 2005 11:18AM (PDT)
Mitch Keeler posts about the Open Media 100 and raises some valid points. I commented over there, however I'm going to leverage my new celeb status (snort! that's sarcasm, campers!) and post here.
If you're on The List (even Honorable Mentions), post a link to someone not on the list who has meaning to you. With that, I'll concur with Mitch on Matt Hartley and Brandon Watts. I'd also like to point to Evelyn Rodriguez of Crossroads Dispatches; Robin Good of Masternewmedia; Alex Williams of Corante; John Furrier of Podtech.net; Josh Kinberg and Jay Dedman of ANT--- hell, a GOOD number of videobloggers are SO open media it's not even funny. Some people don't even blog (GASP!). And some of these people are naturally friends, since strong relationships and beliefs form strong bonds. There are too many people that I can think of: toolmakers, evangelists, and people in other industries and market, but I'm short on time. Hit up Blogebrity's C-list and read those people, too. That's the homework assignment for the -Listers... go do it. I triple-dawg-dare ya. ;-)
Kathie Lee Gifford killed hip-hop
by
Eric Rice
on June 21, 2005 10:09AM (PDT)
Not really, but that's the analogy Jeff Jarvis gives in regards to the LA Times trying a new technology, having it fail, and then everyone saying 'Oh, see? It sucks."
This is like hearing Kathie Lee Gifford try to rap and then, upon hearing the results, declaring hip hop dead. I'm no fan of the Wiki technology, but at least I know it's because I don't like them much. And as human beings, it's sometimes hard to be fair. How many times have you tried something, not liked it (or not given it to work) and said "Oh this just blows!" ... (and be honest now) Change, for some, is hard.
AlwaysOn/Technorati Open Media 100
by
Eric Rice
on June 21, 2005 08:59AM (PDT)
Today I noticed I made the AO/Technorati Open Media 100 list in the category 'trendsetters' along with other spiffy folks. Although 'trendsetter' sounds like 'jetsetter' and doesn't really mean 'fashion trends', I'll just go buy a new black t-shirt.

Wanna make a mass medium? Podcast + Videoblog + Blog *together*
by
Eric Rice
on June 20, 2005 02:11PM (PDT)
And slap some branding on that, while you're at it. Podcasting, videoblogging, and blogging alone might not be a mass medium. What if you combined it all and made a property. Can individuals craft a mass medium? Can individuals muscle their way in? Hrm.
Podtech.net's InfoTalk Series
by
Eric Rice
on June 20, 2005 02:05PM (PDT)
Silicon Valley is my hometown, yet I'm okay that some Boston guy is doing a phenomenal job with his local podcast. ;-) John Furrier is on fire with his Podtech.net: InfoTalk Podcast Series (disclosure: Podtech and KSSX have a distribution relationship). Interviews with John Markoff, Chris Anderson, and a bunch of VC types. One guy. One mic. Making media for business and enterprise. This is how it's done.
Bonus points: What's the building on the header graphic? Eh? Eh?
How does one get on this golden list?

Perhaps you need to know a little bit about "the decentralization of computing, communications, digital media, and business."

Double Packing: Gnomedex and Moving
by
Eric Rice
on June 19, 2005 12:09PM (PDT)
I'm packing for Gnomedex and packing to move to the new house. Oy! And since the Seattle Podcast and Videoblog Roadshow happens the day after Gnomedex (on Sunday), and the Vancouver BC Roadshow is the day after that, I'm packing a crapload of gear. (And yes, I'll have the famous microphone)
Kristen's off to eBay Live with her team and the kids are being shipped off to the grandparent's. When everyone gets back--WHAM moving day! It's also an exciting time for us over at Audioblog.com (you know, that little day job of mine where we enable people to upload audio, video, record mp3s over the web, and phone them in, among other things. heh), with some neat stuff coming down the pipe. Also, I hope to have a couple announcements at Gnomedex relating to a) music videos and b) 106.7 FM (somewhere in America). So there ya be. I'll be around. Saturday, June 18

Also, the bizarre-ness of the Tsunami Alert in San Francisco; I think I fixed my Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger problems; 2005 Mustang Convertible extended test-drive (and my other car drama: Mercedes and MINI). Also, I have something to say about Sirius Satellite Radio; Music Videos; Len from Jawbone rocks the pen and paper; Gnomedex; Secret News at Gnomedex? Hmmmm; Podcast Roadshow--Seattle, WA, Vancouver, BC, Portland OR; Webvisions2005; and finally the new music show MIXTAPE on KSSX. Go forth and download!
