I stumbled across two examples of citizen journalism on opposite sides of the country: One in Washington State; the other in Boston.

Independent America, a site dedicated to being "on the lookout for 'Mom and Pop'...", is making a trek across America, not stepping foot in a mainstream chain, in 52 days. In this video, Voices of Port Townsend, the town moves toward implementing an anti-chain policy and is documented by Independent America.

I'm willing to be that there are more citizens with cameras than news reporters.

To the other coast, we see conversations from the WiFi Summit in Boston posted in near-realtime by Boston videoblogger Steve Garfield, who wrote and podcasted some thoughts on the process.

Local issues have already become apparent to me as I've only hit up one city on my Podcast and Videoblog Roadshow: Honolulu. I've found that local issues are important to some podcasters. Of course, when 'local' means being six hours away from everything else, while being surrounded by water, it's somewhat obvious, the reasons why 'local is everything'.
